Darke County Humane Society

Welcome

to the home of the

Darke County Humane Society

The Darke County Humane Society was founded in 1953.  Formed under Ohio Revised Code 1717.05 our mission is to instill humane principles and enforce laws for the prevention of cruelty, especially to children and animals, through repetitious knowledge and awareness.

We are an all volunteer organization. As members, it is our duty to care for injured, abused and unwanted animals. A Humane Officer is appointed and receives a minimal wage. The Humane Officer has the responsibility to arrest perpetrators of cruelty to persons or animals.

The providing of public education and awareness is a very important component in carrying out our mission. Dog safety for children is an issue that everyone should learn about, but our biggest concern for awareness is the importance of spaying/neutering your pet.  We also have videos available on puppy and kitten care.

Our funds are received through donations, bequests, grants and fundraising.  The funds are used to pay for expenses such as veterinary services, food, shelter, medicine and a spay/neuter assistance fund. As volunteers, we plan and carry out all fund raising activities.
